High Five Friday Homecoming Week 2024

Good Afternoon Everyone,

I hope this Superintendent Update for October 2024 finds you and yours well.  As you are aware, throughout this month there are several events taking place within the Spencer-East Brookfield Regional School District... from "Homecoming Week 2024" at David Prouty High School to High Five Fridays and Scholastic Book Fairs at our elementary schools to AaTS Massachusetts bringing Tomo and Toshi for classroom and school-wide visits, there is something for everyone this month happening in every one of our schools within the Spencer-East Brookfield Regional School District. In this month's Superintendent Update for October 2024, I wanted to take a moment to highlight a few key pieces of information for the public - highlighting the fact that we are on "the road to awesome" as a result of our reset!

Enrollment: Our regional school district enrollment has stabilized, especially at the preschool level. As of this morning, we have 1435 students enrolled within our district.  David Prouty High School has 309 students enrolled; Knox Trail Middle School has 422 students; Wire Village School has 429 students; and East Brookfield Elementary School has 252 students including 104 students enrolled for the "Cubs Corner" Preschool!

Personnel: We continue to post for and need special education teachers, specialists, and paraprofessionals to join our district.  As mentioned last month, we are very fortunate to have new personnel joining our faculty and staff this year who are committed to “continuous improvement," remaining positive, and focused upon teaching and learning with purpose – in partnership with our parents/families.

DESE LogoMCAS Update: Massachusetts Comprehensive Assessment System (MCAS) scores show the importance of continued focus on chronic absenteeism and literacy.  MCAS results from the spring 2024 administration will be mailed home to each parent/family and student this week.  Please be on the lookout for the assessment results for your son /daughter.  Like many within the Commonwealth of Massachusetts, the Spencer-East Brookfield Regional School District received an accountability determination in 2024 for students in grades 3-8 & 10 for the second time since the COVID-19 pandemic. The Spencer-East Brookfield Regional School District’s overall classification is “not requiring assistance or intervention” as a result of making “moderate progress toward targets.”

MCAS scores will be available online at: https://profiles.doe.mass.edu/statereport/mcas.aspx

District and school accountability data will be available at: https://profiles.doe.mass.edu/statereport/accountability.aspx
